For instance, you see a lot of internet hype for stocks A, B, and X, and you see that this caused stock X to jump in price. Because this stock price jump was likely due to marketing hype rather than fundamentals, you can short stock X and then profit from the likely decline. This is a solid strategy based on research and legwork.
